What inspired you to submit your piece to the contest?
Well, obviously the pushing point was the glyph theme. I am a heavily obsessed Glyph addict and I could not let a themed contest with them involved slip past me.
Truly though, I submitted this artwork because of the community that has spent years being my support. I’ve done a variety of artwork for Ingress, with so much acceptance from the community, but it all started for me in IFS artwork for my local community and posting it on gplus. It has been a dream of mine for my artwork to come into the scanner in some sort of official way, ever since Joe shared my ifs artwork on gplus, but I waited until the contest had been going on for awhile before I felt it was right for me to submit.
Is there anything about your artwork you want people to know?
There is quite a few things. If you are not into lore or glyphs this will probably bore you because I am a glyph obsessed, lore loving agent, and it would have done a horrible disservice if I hadn’t tried to include those elements in my artwork.
The item my crossfaction girl is holding is an empty Abaddon chamber that is resonating blue and green to indicate the potential of a new magnus because currently in lore all of the researchers lost their archetype powers. Each glyph on those chambers are the glyphs highlighted in the Epiphany Night, camp Navarro skit that lead to us entering Osiris. I was gifted each of the archetype representatives cards and wanted to include the glyphs in the artwork. The center of the chambers is my favorite glyph, outside of the one gifted to the journal by OG PAC. Unbounded will forever be my favorite glyph until I can make more because Unbounded I feel most represents the communities I love and myself. Behind Unbounded is the symbol of all of the known glyphs combined together.
I think the most obvious thing for older agents is going to be the glyphs in hexs at the top and bottom of the image. This was my tribute to both the original scanner and Prime. It has its own little message of positivity if you combined them together.
Last but not least, is the red glyphs. These are a tribute to the anime that came out, which is why they may look a little out of place because I was attempting to do something that looked a tad chaotic to represent not just that scene but of how glyphs have been viewed in the past when it comes to lore. To add to this, there are glyphs among these lines that we have seen in lore but havent seen come to our scanner. I actually have multiple versions that I did of this image and in one, the glyphs are in front of the girl and you can spot glyphs from the entirety of Ingress lore within them.
I still honestly have a version of this image I want to make where there’s glyphs on her arms, kinda like Carrie Campbell but I ran out of time and the holidays have given me little time to work more on it.
Is there a website where people can see your artwork or other artwork you like to show?
Most of my Ingress Artwork of late is posted alongside my other Ingress things on my designated Ingress social medias.
Instagram: instagram.com/ishiratsubasa
Twitter: twitter.com/ishiratsubasa
Facebook: facebook.com/glyphhunter
I do have a DeviantArt for all of my artwork (not just Ingress) that you can find looking up my pen name but it is not entirely family friendly.
Are there any details you would like to share about your craft?
I am more of a paper and pencil artist. A sketcher and traditional artist than anything else, but Ingress challenged me to be more than that. In my journey, I’ve been working way more with digital art than I ever was before. This image started as a sketch in my drawing pad but then took to life in a program I use called Krita. If you ever need a free program that is like photoshop, id suggest that one.
Do you plan to make swag of it?
There is talk of making some cards of all of its versions.
Is it ok if agents use your image in their IFS@Home Group photos?
It was made for the community so of course you can use it as long as you give credit.
