The Device tab on the ops screen provides options for configuring your scanner and performing other miscellaneous functions. Settings marked with an asterisk (*) are stored in your Ingress account rather than your device, and thus will apply to all devices on your account and persist after clearing app data or a factory reset.
- User: Displays the email address for your agent account, and provides a “Sign out” button. Most people won’t need this, but if you share a device with another agent, this lets switch accounts. (Multiple accounts for one agent is against the Ingress Terms of Service, but multiple agents that share one device are okay. Multiple devices for a single account are also okay as long as you’re only using one device at a time.)
- Link G+ profile: Allows you to link or unlink your Ingress account to your Google Plus account. Linking causes a G+ icon to appear on your agent profile, allowing other agents to find you more easily on Google Plus.
- Data: Provides a “Force sync” button, which clears your device’s cache and reloads data from the server. This can be useful if your device is not displaying correct game state.
- Sources: Shows information about the open source libraries used by the Ingress application. This is provided for legal purposes and is not useful to you as an agent.
- Build: Displays the application build number. You can use this to check whether you have the current version of Ingress. Note that new updates are “trickled out” and are not available to all agents at once.
- Sound: Allows you to change the volume level for background sounds, sound effects, and speech; and toggle vibration.
- Compass: Provides a button to toggle between static and dynamic compass. (This can also be toggled by tapping the compass arrow on the main scanner view.) The dynamic compass attempts to use your device’s magnetometer to orient the scanner view dynamically as you rotate. (This doesn’t work very well for many devices.) The static compass leaves it to you to rotate the scanner view yourself.
- Location smoothing: Allows you to toggle location smoothing on and off. If you’re having trouble with your GPS location jumping around, toggling this might fix it.
- Email*: Allows you to subscribe to emails for game notifications and/or Ingress-related news or promotions.
- Notifications: Allows you to control notifications for various in-game events, and whether your device vibrates when a notification arrives.
- Notification Sounds: Allows you to change the sound that plays when notifications are received.
- Agent Profile*: Provides a checkbox that controls whether other agents can see the statistics section of your profile. The most common reason agents did this was to hide their Guardian count (before the Guardian medal was retired), although some agents are just secretive.
- Blocked Agents*: Allows you to view the list of agents you have blocked and unblock any of them if you desire.
- Tutorials*: Lets you reset the hints that appear on the screen for new users so that you can view them as if for the first time. This does not, however, allow you to choose a different faction.
- Language*: Allows you to select the language used by your scanner to display text. Changing your selected language will cause Ingress to restart. Note that some languages are only partially translated. Currently, the following options are available:
- Auto (use your device’s locale, fall back to English if the desired language is not available)
- English
- Čeština (Czech)
- Deutsch (German)
- Español (Spanish)
- Français (French)
- Italiano (Italian)
- Nederlands (Dutch)
- Norsk (Norwegian)
- Polski (Polish)
- Português (Portuguese)
- Русский (Russian)
- Svenska (Swedish)
- 한국어 (Korean)
- 中文(简体) (Simplified Chinese)
- 中文(繁體) (Traditional Chinese)
- 日本語 (Japanese)
- Audio Language*: Allows you to select the language used by your scanner for speech. Changing your selected language will cause Ingress to restart. Currently, the following options are available:
- Auto (use your device’s locale, fall back to English if the desired language is not available)
- English
- 日本語 (Japanese)
- Quick Wakeup: Toggles whether the Ingress application displays when the device is locked. With this setting enabled, if your device goes to sleep while Ingress is active, Ingress will be displayed instead of your lock screen when you wake your device. If you then attempt to switch away from Ingress, you’ll be presented with your lock screen as normal.
- The changes will take effect the next time you launch Ingress.
- Immersive Mode (if supported by your OS): Causes Ingress to occupy the entire screen while it is active, removing OS interface objects such as the notification bar.
- The changes will take effect the next time you launch Ingress.
- Smaller Icons: If enabled, shrinks buttons and icons displayed in the application. This can be useful for devices with smaller screens. The changes will take effect the next time you launch Ingress.
